The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. The purpose of the ALA is to support the aims and purposes of The American Legion and to honor the sacrifices of those who serve by enhancing the lives of veterans, current servicemembers, their families, and our community. We advocate for veterans; educate our citizens; mentor youth; and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace, and security.
Dedicated to service, not self, ALA Unit 1 in DC is largely comprised of family members of current conflict veterans and similar-aged family members of previous conflict veterans. Our unit is associated with American Legion George Washington Post 1, the first post chartered after The American Legion formed in 1919.
