ALA Unit 1 in DC Participates in MLK  Day of Service to Support Veterans and Servicemembers

WASHINGTON, DC—American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 members, friends and American Legion Auxiliary Call to Service Corps AmeriCorps members in the DC-metro area joined to stuff 120 care kits for deployed servicemembers, Wounded Warriors, veterans and first responders with Points of Light’s Unite America in Service–National Day of Service 2013 project at the DC Armory. Collectively, volunteers gathered to assist in stuffing 100,000 care kits. Care kits included a lint roller, dental floss, toothbrush and toothpaste, wet wipes, bandaids, hand sanitizer and cotton rounds.

Nationally, American Legion Auxiliary members and staff around the country joined hundreds of thousands of Americans to make the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday a day on, not a day off, by serving others in the spirit of the late civil rights leader.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 is the District of Columbia’s newest women’s patriotic service organization. Unit 1, formally chartered in 2013, is committed to serving veterans, their families and the DC community.
