ALA Unit 1 in DC Assists in Wreaths Across America Clean-Up at Arlington National Cemetery

WASHINGTON, DC—American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 members (including Denyse Gordon, 2012 Ms. Veteran America) and friends faired the cold weather to join in the clean-up of the 110,000 Wreaths Across America wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath laying ceremonies in December at veterans cemeteries and other locations to honor and remember the sacrifices of our veterans.

The Ms. Veteran America competition focuses on celebrating women who have served our country, the competition also functioned as a fundraiser for Final Salute Inc., an organization that provides housing and aid to homeless female veterans and their children.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 is the District of Columbia’s newest women’s patriotic service organization. Unit 1, formally chartered in 2013, is committed to serving veterans, their families and the DC community.
